Google is hosting an event in New Delhi on 15th Septemebr, which will be presided over by Sundar Pichai, Senior VP & the head of Android, Chrome and Google Apps. In this event, Google will officially launch their new Android One OS in India and three Indian companies – Micomax, Karbonn and Spice would also announce their smartphones running on Android One.
These smartphones will have price tag of approximately Rs. 6,000 and will have Google selected hardware. Google’s aim is to provide affordable smartphones for true Android experience. The users of these smartphones will not only get good hardware at affordable price, but also automatic quick updates from Google, which is lacking so far in Indian handsets and even in hig-end Android smartphones. These smartphones are targetted at emerging markets like India, Brazil and China.
These smartphones by Indian vendors will feature 4.5-inch display, MediaTek processor, Dual-SIM card slots and a removable SD card, FM radio, and will run on Android One OS.
Surprisingly, as per the updates received through different sources, all the three Indian companies – Micromax, Karbonn and Spice would be selling their Andoid One smartphones exclusively on e-commece sites. Micromax would be selling on Amazon.in, Karbonn on snapdeal and Spice through Flipkart.
It has become a trend to sell now new launched products exclusively via e-commerce sites, and this concept was started by Motorola with their Moto range of smartphones. But we wonder, whether the targetted audience of these smartphones would be comfortable in purchasing these smartphones online. We will come to know on 15th September whether these smartphones would be available later on in retail stores also.
We shall cover this event and post more information tomorrow afternoon.
