Microsoft Lumia 830 With 10MP PureView Camera Is Priced Rs. 28,799

Microsoft India has launched today three Lumia smartphones in India – Lumia 730, Lumia 830 and Lumia 930. In this article, we shall discuss about Lumia 830, which is priced Rs. 28,799 and shall be avaialble from 8th October onwards in India.

The Lumia 830 takes forward rich camera technology of Nokia and is equipped with a 10MP PureView rear camera with ZEISS optics and comes with thinnest Optical Image Stabilization. This camera has capability to produce razor-sharp images captured in daylight or even in fading or during night time. It also houses a 1-megapixel front-facing camera.

The Lumia 830 also incorporates Nokia Rich Recording, which has three high performance mics delivering true 5.1 surround sound and Nokia Camera delivers distortion-free and full bandwidth stereo recording.

The Lumia 830 will be available in bright orange, bright green, white and black color variants. It is 8.5mm thin and is claimed to be the thinnest and lightest Lumia device so far. It has form factor of metal and polycarbonate that gives it good look.

From the hardware perspective, the Lumia 830 running on Windows 8.1 OS, has good features. This smartphone sports  5-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) ClearBlack IPS LCD display with a pixel density of 296ppi. The display has Curved Gorilla 3.0 glass protection. It is driven by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, paired with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of inbuilt storage which is further expandable up to 128GB with the help of microSD card. It is fuelled by a 2200mAh battery, which can be charged via Nokia Wireless Charging plate also.

The Lumia 830 also has very useful feature of Screen-Sharing. This feature enables the phone to transfer any content like your images, videos, music movies, games etc. to an HDMI-enabled screen. For utilising this feature, you would require a removable NFC disc, and with the single tap, you can transfer the contents from your smartphone. This disc will be available in India before Diwali at MRP of Rs. 5,999.

To sweeten the deal for the buyers of Lumia 830, the company is also offering additional 15GB free space available on Microsoft’s OneDrive. Besides this, 1 Terabyte of cloud storage on OneDrive will be available for free for the first 6 months and thereafter will be chargeable at Rs. 150/- per month. The Lumia 830 also comes with the Lumia Denim update that introduces features such as Live Folders, SMS merge and forwarding and Apps Corner.

All said and done about the features and hardware, the moot question is whether the buyers will like the price of Rs. 28,799 for moderate hardware features. In our opinion, the price of Lumia 830 should not have been more than Rs. 23,000. We are of the opinion that for die-hard fans of Windows phone, this device will be good option at this price-range, but for other prospective buyers, it may be tricky sitaution to go in for this when Android devices with similar specifications are available in good price range.
