Thanks to ever increasing usage of mobile phones, it was quite on the cards that facility to book your rail ticket on your mobile phones would be available. Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation(IRCTC) has come up with a new way that lets passengers book tickets through mobile phones anywhere, anytime.
After initial registration and downloading of suitable software on the mobile handset with Internet facility, it will be possible for the mobile users to book a ticket through their own mobile. Passengers, who wish to book rail tickets, can go to the mobile website of the Indian Railways https://www.irctc.co.in/mobile.
After booking, the passenger will receive a reservation message with full details of the ticket including PNR, train no, date of journey and class. Showing the reservation message of the confirmed ticket on their mobile during travel to Ticket Checker will be sufficient. Internet is required on mobile phones to book tickets through mobile.
The website offers various features. People can book tickets by providing source and destination, check booking history and cancel tickets. Payment can be made using credit or debit card. Users can use their existing IRCTC user id and password to login to the website.
The service was introduced on a pilot basis for a few and now many users are availing this facility everyday.The service charge is similar to e-tickets– Rs 10 for Sleeper class and Rs 20 for other higher class.
Hope this service will not have hiccups as that of official reservation website of IRCTC, which hangs up quite often especially in the morning around 8 AM.
