As per various leaks, media reports and tech blogs, beleagured Finnish handsets maker is set to launch today its latest Lumia 1020 with 41MP camera and running on Windows 8 OS, in an event in NewYork. Nokia had originally unveiled 808 Pureview phone having 41MP in early 2012, but it was running on the old Symbian operating system and didn’t elicit good response from the consumers.
This time, Nokia is gambling with idea of offering high-end 41MP camera in Windows 8 smartphone. But the moot question is whether this ploy of Nokia will bring good results for the company, which is struggling against stiff competition posed by Android devices especially of Samsung and Apple’s iPhone. Whether it is wise decicion of Nokia to bank upon advanced optics to make up for meager marketing resources and limited phone apps, only time will tell. The consumer today looks for overall features and apps in a smartphone and will not buy only if it has a strong shooting capabilities. If camera is the only consideration then why not to buy a good professional camera?
Nokia’s Pureview camera technology would be its main selling point and the company’s own website promises “41 million reasons” to tune into the event in New York.Instead of highlighting its camera feature as key factor to push its upcoming smartphone, Nokia should have concentrated on more features, design to give some competition to its highly aggressive adversaries. “What I’m expecting to see is a powerful device that will differentiate it from competitors’ high-end handsets. But whether this will be enough to compete with Samsung and Apple? I doubt it,” said Francisco Jeronimo, of research firm IDC.
But probably, Nokia’s thought process is different and they are still far away from reality. Let us see how their new device perform in the coming days and whether it can be relief or cause another pain in the already injured neck.
