Samsung has launched today its latest fifth generation flagship smartphone Galaxy S5 at an event in New Delhi. Samsung India has not disclosed the exact price of this smartphone but informed that it will be priced between Rs. 51,000 to Rs. 53,000. The exact price will be revealed by the company close on the heels of its availability in India. We assume that this device will be priced around Rs. 52,500. The Galaxy S5 will be available in retail stores across India and e-commerce sites from 11th April onwards.
There is not much change on the front appearance of the new Galaxy S5, but it features a perforated pattern on the back cover creating a modern glam look. This new sleek, contoured shaped smartphone will be available in charcoal Black, shimmery White, electric Blue and copper Gold colors.
The Galaxy S5 features a 5.1-inch FHD Super AMOLED (1920 x 1080) display, and is powered by an eight-core Exynos processor (four clocked at 1.9GHz, four at 1.3GHz) ,coupled with 2GB of RAM plus 16GB internal memory, which can be expanded upto 64GB via microSD card. It runs on latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat, and is fuelled by a 2800mAh battery, which according to the company, will have standby time of 300 hrs and talk time of 21 hrs. This smartphone comes with the Ultra Power Saving Mode feature, which turns the display to black and white, and shuts down all unnecessary features to minimize the battery consumption.
The Galaxy S5 is equipped with a 16 megapixel rear camera, which is claimed to have the world’s fastest autofocus speed up to 0.3 seconds and the advanced High Dynamic Range (HDR), reproduce natural light and color with striking intensity. It also has Selective Focus feature, which allows users to focus on a specific area of an object while simultaneously blurring out the background. This smartphone also boasts of a 2.1 megapixel front camera.
According to Samsung, the Galaxy S5 supports the fifth generation Wi-Fi 802.11ac and 2X2 MIMO.
The Galaxy S5 is IP67 dust and water proof device. Samsung has clarified during the presentation that the S5 will not be damaged when you are talking and it starts raining. However, one should not venture to swim with this. It also offers a Finger Scanner, providing a secure, biometric screen locking feature.
To cater to lifestyles of consumers, the Galaxy S5 comes with the enhanced S Health 3.0 application. As per Samsung, this app offers more tools to help people stay fit and well. It provides a comprehensive personal fitness tracker to help users monitor and manage their behavior, along with additional tools including a pedometer, diet and exercise records, and a new, built-in heart rate monitor. Galaxy S5 users can further customize their experience with an enriched third party app ecosystem and the ability to pair with next generation Gear products for real-time fitness coaching.
We were expecting that the Galaxy S5 will be priced between Rs. 42 to 45K, but we feel that it is little bit priced higher than general expectations of the prospective consumers. But we are quite certain that in the coming weeks, Samsung will definitely come out with some attractive schemes to push the sale of S5 in India.
