Samsung India has launched today its Made in India tablet – Galaxy Tab Iris – which will be ideally suitable for government and enterprises in India. The USP of Galaxy Tab Iris is that it incorporates iris-recognition technology and is ready for Aadhaar authentication. It is Aadhaar-compliant and STQC-certified. It will help to solve the hassles of using separate devices for biometric identification.

According to Samsung, the easy-to-use biometric technology, currently incorporated in the Galaxy Tab Iris will help India spread its Digital India vision of providing technology so that every citizen of the country can have access to financial inclusion benefits. The solution will support government benefit programs and enable banks and financial institutions to streamline the process of an individual’s authentication, regardless of language and literacy barriers.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris will enable users to access services remotely by embedding Aadhaar iris-biometric authentication capabilities. This alignment will provide a more secure authentication and verification process and help the country transition away from traditional authentication processes. It is a breakthrough technology as E-KYC can be carried out in seconds whereas the traditional KYC takes up to 2 to 7 days, as stated by Samsung.  The Galaxy Tab Iris is  also UIDAI compliant. It can be used for child enrolment program where biometrics of the parent is used to authenticate children for Aadhaar enrolment.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris is a 3G-enabled tablet and comes with SIM card slot. It sports a 7-inch WSVGA (1024×600 pixels) display. It is packed with 1.2GHz quad-core processor paired with 1.5GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 8GB of internal storage which can be extended upto 200 GB via microSD card.

The Galaxy Tab Iris comes with a 5 MP rear autofocus camera. It also has dual-eye scanner, which accroding to Samsung, provides for a contactless scan and greater security. This device gets its juice from 3600mAh battery.

This tablet has weight of 327g and its thickness is 9.7mm. This tabelt offers connectivity options of  Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.1, and  USB2.0 with Host. The Galaxy Tab Iris supports 14 Indian languages. This tabelt runs on Android Lollipop OS.

Announcing the launch, Mr. Sukesh Jain, Vice President, Samsung India Electronics, said, “This is another example of Samsung’s pursuit for meaningful innovations. The Galaxy Tab Iris addresses consumer pain points across platforms such as banking, finance, education and various citizen services by bringing enhanced usability, versatility and reliability all through one device.”
