Samsung has announced today two mid-range smartphones to challenge supremacy of Chinese companies like Xiaomi in this segment. The two smartphones launched today are Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3. The Galaxy A5 and A3 are claimed to be Samsung’s slimmest smartphones to date, featuring refined full metal unibody designs that are 6.7mm and 6.9mm thin, respectively.
The Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3 have almost similar features and they differ only in screen size, Rear camera, RAM and battery capacity. Both the smartphones run on Android KitKat 4.4 OS.
The Galaxy A5 sports a 5 inch Super Amoled display and is powered by a 1.2GHz Quad-Core Processor, paired with 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage, which can be extended upto 64GB via microSD card.
The Galaxy A5 is equipped with 13MP auto-focus rear camera with LED Flash. It also houses 5MP front-facing camera for taking selfies easily and vividly. It comes with features such as Wide Selfie, Palm Selfie, Animated GIF, Beauty Face Features, and Rear-cam Selfie. The front camera also is also capable of capturing attractive selfies in high resolution by automatically detecting and focusing on a person’s face. Moreover, the users will be able to quickly and easily share photos or videos on their favorite social media channels with the device’s fast network speed of LTE Category 4 standard, wherever it is available.
The Galaxy A5 is packed with 2,300 mAh battery with Ultra-Power Saving Mode. This phone has dimensions of 139.3 x 69.7 x 6.7mm, and its weight is 123 grams. For connectivity, this smartphone offers options of 4G: LTE Cat4 (150/50Mbps), 3G: HSPA+ 42.2/5.76Mbps,Wi-Fi: 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth: 4.0(BLE, ANT+), NFC (LTE version only) and A-GPS/ GLONASS.
The Galaxy A3 features a 4.5 inch qHD Super AMOLED display and is powered by a 1.2GHz Quad-Core Processor, paired with 1GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage, which can be extended upto 64GB via microSD card. The Galaxy A5 is equipped with an 8MP auto-focus rear camera with LED Flash. It also houses 5MP front-facing camera for selfies with same features as of Galaxy A5.
The Galaxy A3 is fuelled by a 1900mAh battery with Ultra-Power Saving Mode. It has dimensions of 130.1 x 65.5 x 6.9mm, and its weight is 110.3 grams. It has same connectivity options as of Galaxy A5.
The Galaxy A5 and A3 comes in a variety of colors, including Pearl White, Midnight Black, Platinum Silver, Soft Pink, Light Blue and Champagne Gold. The Galaxy A5 and A3 will be available in select markets including China starting in November 2014. Samsung has not disclosed the prices of these devices and as usual, it will be announced close on the heels of their availability.
