“The compelling proposition of an easy to use and clutter free interface (of Z1), along with premium design has met wide consumer acceptance… The Z1 will be manufactured in company’s Noida plant in UP,” Samsung India Vice President Marketing (Mobile and IT) Asim Warsi told PTI.

The Noida facility near Delhi, has a capacity of producing over four million mobile phones a month and manufactures both affordable and high-end devices here.
India is the first market globally, where the Z1 was launched at Rs. 5,700, targeted at first-time smartphone buyers.
“The phone will soon be launched in Bangladesh,” Warsi said.

The Samsung Z1 is targetted for the entry level users of smartphones and which the company claims will be enjoyable even for the first time smartphone users.

The Samsung Z1 runs on Samsung’s Tizen 2.3 OS which according to the company delivers a faster boot time and quick access to apps, along with enhanced web performance to offer users faster page loading times with decreased data usage.

The Samsung Z1 sports a 4 inch WVGA PLS screen, and is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 768 MB RAM and 4GB internal memory expandable up to 64GB with a microSD card. This smartphone supports dual SIM support and is fuelled by 1500mAh battery, which is claimed to provide 7 hours of non-stop videos and 8 hours of talk time. The battery life has been further enhanced with the unique ‘Ultra Power Saving Mode’ which lets the phone remain operational in important situations, even at minimal battery levels.

The Z1 is equipped with a 3.1 megapixel rear camera that is claimed to allow high quality shots even in low light settings and a VGA front camera with an auto face detect feature to easily capture more natural selfies.

To address the demand of youngsters, Samsung is providing users with a wide range of free entertainment content spanning across categories such as music, movies, videos, mobile TV and radio.

According to industry sources, Samsung has sold about 50,000-55,000 units of Z1 since the launch on January 14.

Currently, only a few devices, including Samsung’s smartwatch products run on the Tizen platform. A majority of Samsung’s mobile phones are Android-based, which is also the dominant OS on most smartphones across the globe. Samsung developed Tizen with Huawei Technologies and Intel Corp to challenge the Android software that powers most of the world’s mobile devices.
