The popular Taiwanese online portal Digitimes has reported that Samsung has unveiled its latest flagship Galaxy S5 in Taiwan at the retail price of $ 756, which work out to approximately Rs. 46,000 at today’s rate of exchange. The Galaxy S5 will be available in Taiwan and other global markets from 11th April. In India, the Galaxy S5 is estimated to be priced in the range of Rs. 45,000.
As speculated earlier by many trade and technical analysts, Samsung will keep the price of Galaxy S5 less than its previous iteration Galaxy S4. But from the above price announced for Taiwan market, it appears that Galaxy S5 is going to be expensive than S4. The Galaxy S4 was launched in India at Rs. 41,500, in April,2013. As blogged by us earlier, when Galaxy S4 was launched then at that time the scenario of smartphone market was different. In the intervening period, many established vendors like LG,Sony and of late Chinese companies like Gionee,Lenovo etc., have become very aggressive and they have come out with several smartphones in different price range. These companies are going to pose stiff challenge to Samsung not only on price front but also on hardware features and customised applications. If Samsung has to attract maximum number of customers to possess its Galaxy S5 especially in price-conscious market like India then they will have to keep the price of S5 in check. In our opinion, the S5 should be priced around 40K to sell in large numbers. Let us wait for few more days to see how Galaxy S5 is priced in India.

The new smartphone features a perforated pattern on the back cover creating a modern glam look. But there is no change in the frontal design of this smartphone, which may disappoint many Samsung followers. This new sleek, contoured shaped smartphone will be available in charcoal Black, shimmery White, electric Blue and copper Gold colors.
The Galaxy S5 features a 5.1-inch FHD Super AMOLED (1920 x 1080) display, and is powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core processor, coupled with 2GB of RAM plus 16GB/ 32GB internal memory, which can be expanded upto 64GB via microSD card. It runs on latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat, and is fuelled by a 2800mAh battery, which according to the company, will have standby time of 390 hrs and talk time of 21 hrs. This smartphone comes with the Ultra Power Saving Mode feature, which turns the display to black and white, and shuts down all unnecessary features to minimize the battery consumption.
