As was expected, Samsung has finally announced its first Tizan smartphone Samsung Z. This smartphone will run newly developed Tizen OS version 2.2.1 and will be available in Q3 initially in Russia and will be introduced in other markets later on. Samsung has not disclosed the price of this smartphone. Samsung Z will be showcased at the Tizen Developer Conference, San Francisco from June 3rd.
According to Samsung, the users of Samsung Z will be able to access additional applications through the Tizen Store at the launch of the Samsung Z. To encourage more developers to develop the apps for Tizen platform, the Tizen Store will provide a special promotional program to all developers for one year.
As was desired badly, Samsung has finally given a new look to its Tizen smartphone. Samsung Z features a slim, angular design with sophisticated lines, providing a differentiated look from its Galaxy range of smartphones. The Samsung Z will be available in two colors: Black and Gold.
The Samsung Z sports a 4.8-inch (720×1280 pixels) HD Super AMOLED display, and is powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of inbuilt storage, which can be expanded upto 64GB via microSD card. The Samsung Z is equipped with an 8-megapixel autofocus rear camera with LED flash, and also comes with a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera. It is fuelled with a 2600mAh battery which has an Ultra Power Saving Mode that lets the phone stay operational even at minimal battery levels in emergencies. The dimesnions of Samsung Z are 138.2×69.8×8.5mm and its weight is 136 grams.
For connectivity, the Samsung Z supports WiFi: 802.11 a/b/g/n HT40, MIMO(2×2), GPS / GLONAS, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0, NFC, IR Remote, 3G and 4G.
According to Samsung, their Tizen Z smartphone features a distinctive home and application layout, for easy access to favorite features and apps. It also incorporates the prominent features of their latest flagship Galaxy S5 such as Fingerptint Scanner, Heart rate sensor and S Health 3.0.
While announcing the Samsung Z, DJ Lee, President and Head of Global Sales & Marketing Office, Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics, said,”Samsung is committed to enhancing the mobile experience of consumers with innovation that is both personal and unique to their needs.The Samsung Z integrates the power and adaptability of the Tizen platform, enabling users to browse the web faster and utilize applications more effectively.”
Now the moot question is how the consumers react to the new Tizen platform as Android is the most popular OS for mobile devices and of late, Windows OS is also getting some traction in mobile phones. We had predicted earlier that Samsung would test the water for Tizen OS By launching one smartphone on this platform and if this experiment turns out ot be successful then Samsung will introduce more devices on this platform.
