To capitalise on its highly successful Xperia brand of smartphones, which are getting overwhelming response in India and elsewhere, Sony India today launched its Xperia Tablet Z, which the company claims is the world’s thinnest design at 6.9 mm, priced at Rs. 46,990.

Like Xperia Z smartphone, the Xperia Z tablet is also dust and water-resistant, and  sports a 10.1 inch 1920X1200p WUXGA display with a mobile Bravia Engine 2. It is the first tablet to be powered by Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with 1.5 GHz asynchronous quad CPUs. This tablet will run on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), which is upgradable to 4.2.It also comes with 2 GB RAM, an 8.1-megapixel rear camera, 2.2-megapixel camera at the front and 16GB of storage plus a microSD card slot. The tablet supports NFC, Wi-Fi, IR and Bluetooth.

The tablet also includes Sony’s One-Touch functions that lets users transfer content seamlessly from HD tablet to TV, tablet to speaker or phone to tablet just by touching them together.

As part of an introductory offer, Sony is also offering the Xperia Tablet Z with a free 16GB microSD card, a premium case worth Rs 2,990 and 6-month EMI schemes with zero percent interest.

The tablet will be available across all Sony centres and major electronic stores across India from today.

This tablet is targetted for premium segment and we wonder whether Sony will be able to create so much demand for this device like their hot-selling Xperia Z smartphone.
