Following on with the trend of big screen smartphones popularly known as phablet, Sony has officially launched its biggest flagship phablet Sony Xperia Z Ultra with 6.4 inch full HD display with a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels.. This phablet, which is also water and dust-proof, was listed for sometimes on few e-commerce sites, but it has been officaialy announced today at hefty price of Rs. 46,900 and will be available in white,black and purple colors. This phablet will hit retail outlets across the country from 2nd August onwards.
Taking advantage of its Bravia TV expertise, the Xperia Z Ultra integrates Sony’s Triluminos technology with its Bravia televisions. Through this technology the display reproduces a rich, natural colours and shades.
The Sony Xperia Z Ultra sports a sleek look with a thickness of 6.5mm compared to 7.9mm thickness of Xpria Z, and weighs 212 grams. This phablet easily fits into front pocket of the shirt and side pocket of male trouser. It is very comfortable to carry it because it is light in weight and very slim device.
The Xperia Z Ultra runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS, and is powered by a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor alongside 2GB of RAM, and comes with 16GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 64GB via microSD card. The Xperia Z Ultra is equipped with an 8-megapixel camera with “Exmor RS for mobile” sensor and HDR for videos and photos, and Suprior Auto mode which automatically activates HDR and noise reduction when needed. It also has a 2-megapixel front facing camera. The device includes LTE, NFC, Wi-Fi, 3G, DLNA and Bluetooth connectivity options.
It has a 3,000mAh battery that Sony claims could deliver up to 14 hours of talktime and 768 hours of standby time. According to Sony, the Xperia Ultra Z also includes Battery Stamina Mode, which is said to improve the standby time by four times or more by automatically shutting down battery-draining apps whenever the screen is off and starting them up again when the screen is back on.
The Sony Xperia Z Ultra incorporates handwriting recognition support and the smartphone can work with a pencil or a stylus/ pen that has a tip of more than 1mm diameter. You can write notes or sketches during calls also.
The Xperia Z Ultra is uniquely positioned to offer the ultimate big screen phone entertainment experience for watching movies, playing games, reading books and browsing the web. It also comes with new and updated Sony Media Applications that include apps like Walkman, Movies and Album. This phablet also has India specific apps such as Sony LIV TV app and Sony Music Jive app. The phone comes bundled with a month’s access to BigFlix movie streaming app and is pre-loaded with the full version of the Asphalt 7 game.
Sony has also announced some acccessories which are available at an extra cost and notable among them is Smart Bluetooth Handset and the Magnetic Charging Dock DK 30.
Sony has also tied-up with Vodafone to offer 8GB free data download for the first two months of product purchase.
In our opinion, this new flagship device from the stable of Sony is good for entertainment buffs because of its big display, who can enjoy their favourite movies in sharp quality, and this smartphone will also be ideal for business also as the majority of work done on a tablet can be performed on this.
