It appears that Apple is very desperate to push its iPhone 5C in emerging markets like India. When 16GB & 32GB iPhone 5C was launched alongwith iPhone 5S, it did not get the desired response because of its high price vis-a-vis its specifications and design quality. This phone is largely made of plastic and doesn’t have the aluminum side and glass back found in the iPhone 5. Apple has now announced the stripped-down version of iPhone 5C with 8GB internal storage in India for Rs. 37,500. The iPhone 5C with 16GB internal storage was launched in India last year at Rs. 41,900.
The iPhone 5C has mediocre specifications and comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera, 4-inch Retina display, A6 processor, 1 GB RAM and 1.2 megapixel front camera. It also sports a polycarbonate shell with five colour options and a glossy finish.
If somebody has to spend around Rs. 38,000 then the consumers in India have many options to get far better device then iPhone 5C. If somebody is not diehard fan of Apple and care for value for money device then one can opt for the latest flagship Samsung Galaxy S5, which has bigger display and superior hardware and software features.
The Galaxy S5 features a 5.1-inch FHD Super AMOLED (1920 x 1080) display, and is powered by an eight-core Exynos processor (four clocked at 1.9GHz, four at 1.3GHz) ,coupled with 2GB of RAM plus 16GB internal memory, which can be expanded upto 64GB via microSD card. It runs on latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat, and is fuelled by a 2800mAh battery. The Galaxy S5 is equipped with a 16 megapixel rear camera and also boasts of a 2.1 megapixel front camera. The Galaxy S5 is IP67 dust and water proof device. The Galaxy S5 also comes with few health related applications, and it is another matter that they are just for cosmetic value. Surprisingly, the official price of Galaxy S5 is Rs. 51,500, but it is readily available for Rs. 38,500 with retailers in West Delhi. Yesterday, I had purchased one Galaxy Grand 2 for Rs. 18,500 for somebody and enquired from the same dealer the price of S5. He quoted me Rs. 38,500 for the S5.
In view of above facts and comparison, I am of the strong opinion that only Apple addicted person would prefer to go in for iPhone 5C.
Of late even the established brands like Samsung, LG, Sony and HTC are feeling the heat as far as their high-end devices are concerned as the market in India is for economically priced smartphones. We have seen delusion of high-end smartphones in India, but we are not sure about their exact numbers being sold. On the contrary, the smartphones priced below Rs. 20,000 are selling like hot cakes in India, which has a total market of Rs. 28,000 crores. Of late, we have seen good number of devices of Motorola,Samsung ( Galaxy Grand and Grand2), Micromax and of other Indian players moving very fast which are not very expensive. In this scenario, only a miracle can help Apple to push its iPhone 5C with 8Gb at the price of Rs. 37,500!
As @disqus_mYfrNjtsWY:disqus mentioned the S 5 is being sold at much lower price online and when you approach a local retailer the price drops even more!
Snapdeal is selling at 39k. 38.5 k from local retailers is definitely possible.
