Xiaomi, which is considered Apple of China, and which has created flutter in Indian market with its aggressively priced smartphones, has launched today its new flagship device, the Mi 4i, at a global premier in New Delhi, India. The Mi 4i has very reasonable price tag of Rs. 12,999.
The Mi 4i will go on sale in India first and registration on Flipkart starts today. The sale will begin April 30, 2015. The Mi 4i will be launched in other markets – Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, in the month of May. This speaks volumes about the company’s commitment to its global plans and the importance for the Indian market, where it has received tremendous response to its devices.
The Mi 4i has a unibody design and features a 5 inch 1080p Full HD display with a pixel density of 441 PPI. It comes with Sunlight Display, which is claimed to dynamically adjusts the contrast of each pixel for crystal-clear images even under direct sunlight. The Mi 4i is also Xiaomi’s very first MIUI 6 device based on Android Lollipop 5.0 OS.
The Mi 4i is powered by a 2nd-gen Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core 64-bit processor coupled with 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 16GB of internal storage. It also has Dual SIM slots and both support 4G LTE connectivity. This phone is compatible with LTE bands in India.
It is equipped with a 13MP f/2.0 rear camera, and also houses 5MP front camera with an 80-degree wide angle lens for great selfies, coupled with Beautify application.
The Mi 4i is packed with a massive 3120mAh battery that is claimed to last through 1.5 days of normal usage. Further this battery is claimed to have on an average 38% more battery capacity across 5-inch premium devices, and 72% higher capacity than the iPhone 6 battery. This is a very tall claim.
On this occasion, Xiaomi also announced extremely popular Mi Band for Rs. 999, which will be sold exclusively on Mi.com. Xiaomi further claims that it is already selling 1 million units of the Mi Band a month. The Mi Band is not only tracks exercise, but also monitors sleep patterns. It can also automatically unlock Mi phones and Android 5.0 devices.
The Mi 4i will face competition from Asus Zenfone 2, which was launched today in India in four varaints at starting price of Rs. 12,999.
