Nokia Expected To Launch 10 Inch Windows 8 Based Tablet In Q4 2012 – Reports

After news about Google’s co-branded tablet, another news emanating from Taiwan, hub of tablets and smartphones, doing the rounds is that Finnish giant Nokia will team up with Microsoft to venture into the tablet PC market by releasing a 10″ inch Windows 8 based table. This tablet will be  on Qualcomm’s dual-core platform and will hit the global markets  in the fourth quarter of 2012 at the earliest, according to inputs of components suppliers of Taiwan.

Nokia is expected to outsource production of the 10-inch tablets to Compal Electronics with the first batch of shipments to top 200,000 units, the sources revealed. Compal Electronics is also OEM suppliers of smartphones to various companies and large chunk of its smartphones are supplied to Nokia. Compal Communications is expected to ship four million smartphones in the second quarter of 2012, with Nokia’s Lumia 610 accounting for the bulk of the shipments.

As per industry sources, Nokia is toying with the idea for long to come out with a tablet, which is natural progression for the company after launch of its Lumia range of smartphones on Windows platform. If Nokia has to make a mark in tablet market then its engagement with Microsoft for latest Windows 8 platform will give it additional strength to compete with non-iPad tablet PC vendors especially on Android platforms.

Moreover, all the major smartphone vendors have come out with their tablets except Nokia and it is high time for Nokia to launch its tablet to encash on its brand equity.
