There is no doubt that the United States is the home of the free and the land of the brave. Still, did you know that this eclectic country is also home to some of the most odd traffic rules and regulations on the planet? Partially stemming from the fact that the history of America can be traced back for centuries, it should really come as no great surprise that some of the rules on the books are a bit outdated (to say the least). Let’s take a quick look at some strange traffic regulations that you have to follow. You might be quite surprised at the information to be found immediately below.
Be Friendly to Horses
Never look a gift horse in the mouth. If you happen to come across one of these equine beauties while driving in Pennsylvania, you will also have to pull over to the side of the road before placing a blanket over your vehicle that blends in with the nearby background. This law was likely written more than 100 years ago in an attempt to avoid spooking a horse that may have escaped from a nearby farm. Still, we have to wonder why it is on the books well into the 21st century.
Respect the Dead While Driving
Most of us have taken a joyride when we were younger. Unfortunately, it seems as if cemeteries are off limits within the state of North Carolina. Yes, you read that last sentence correctly. It is illegal to take a joyride in the confines of a cemetery. You will have to instead confine these excursions to the historical battleground or the occasional morgue. Up until this point, you were likely unaware that the concept of cemetery joyrides even existed.
Mind Your Alligator
The Sunshine State is known for much more than pristine beaches and warm weather. It is also famous for its population of alligators. In fact, these creatures are so common that they are included within modern traffic regulations. If you plan on taking your pet alligator for a walk in the near future, be aware that you will be forced to pay a parking meter fine if it happens to be attached to the base of the unit. We have to wonder how police would enforce this one if they happened to come across a random tied-up alligator waiting for its owner.
Avoid Lake Street
Ah, yes. The dreaded Lake Street within Minneapolis, Minnesota. If you have a red car, you are likely aware of this rule. You are prohibited to drive a red car down this route at any time. Perhaps the nearby owner of a herd of ornery bulls might get upset?
To be sure, all of these regulations are absolutely true; regardless of how strange they may initially appear. Take a look at this interesting graphic if you would like to learn about even more crazy state laws. You will not be let down with what you come across.
