To push the sales of QWERTY smartphones in India, BlackBerry has slashed today prices of its QWERTY devices – 9320, 9720 and Q5 – by as much as Rs 6,000 to sell them for Rs 9,900 onwards. Indian customers can now purchase BlackBerry 9320, BlackBerry 9720 and BlackBerry Q5 at special price of Rs. 9900, Rs. 11990 and Rs. 13990 respectively.
BlackBerry 9320 is the first 3G-enabled device from the BlackBerry’s portfolio in the sub-Rs 10,000 range. The Q5 smartphone will now be available for Rs 13,990, cheaper by almost 30 per cent from the earlier price of Rs 19,990. BlackBerry had launched Q5 last year at MRP of Rs. 24,990 and in one year, the company has almost halved its price.
Commenting on the price cut, Sameer Bhatia, Director, Distribution, BlackBerry, India, said, “The classic BlackBerry Keyboard, re-engineered for the fast efficient navigation and one-handed use, has huge fan base who swear by the distinct typing experience that BlackBerry offers. These compelling price-points will enable QWERTY fans to experience the latest technology and ease of use in one device.”
The offer will run across all BlackBerry retail networks. Earlier also, BlackBerry has reduced prices of its flagship devices like Z10 and Z30 and were able to sell good number of devices at reduced prices. Whether the same strategy will work now, could be any body’s guess.
