Convert Text Into Audio Using Notepad

Last time i shared a notepad trick using which you can format your hard disk. If you haven’t tried that do it now, here is the link :

Format Your Hard Disk Using Just Notepad !!

In this post i am going to share a similar notepad trick using which you can convert any text to audio with just a click. And it doesn’t even require you to pay for software or install any 3rd party software on your PC.

How To Do It ?

  1. Open Notepad file on your Windows PC.
  2. Copy and paste the below mentioned code :

      Dim msg, sapi
      msg=InputBox("Enter your text for conversion–www.techvorm.com","TechVorm Text-To-Audio Converter")
      Set sapi=CreateObject("sapi.spvoice")
      sapi.Speak msg
  3. Save this file with any name with .vbs as extension. For eg. Text-To-Audio.vbs

Thats it ! Your Text to Audio converter is ready to be used. Now open the saved file and key in the text you want to convert and click OK. If you find any difficulties in using this code, let me know via comments section.

  1. It work fine when I wrote in english . Is there a way to change the language so I could do the same thing in french. I’ve tried to write in french but the conversion was beyond understanding…
    I have Window 7 in french…

  2. Actually, Paritosh is wrong. If you go into the running programs, (make sure the script is running) you will see at the bottom or mid-tween (just look) a program with .vbs (Don’t run any other scripts.) So, if it’s running, go into your system prefs & find vocal (depends on model) and click on it and reduce the MAX SPEED. Hope it helped, we r probably working on diff computers here.

  3. Hi, I am having the same problem. Check out my post above and look at the image attached. Please reply if that is what it looked like. Thanks! 🙂

  4. When I opened it, it showed the box and everything, but then I typed in some text, and when I clicked OK, this box immediately popped up. (Shown in image attached.)

  5. Do you know of a way to do this within notepad so you can keep typing long messages but have it play read out entire sentences?

  6. Hi,
I am using windows 7 and this trick to change into audio devices is not working.
    what should I do know???

  7. I found out how to make a pre-saved message.
just delete: <<<<<<<<>>>>>> from the code and replace it with : msg=”Whatever you want”.

Ohhh and to make it funnier just add the word “do” (without quotes) at the first line before writing the code and at the last line the word: loop

  8. can you change the language on the audio so you type in one language and the audio is a different one

  9. How about if you want to pre-save the text so that when one clicks the file they can hear what you have to say?

Just type the text their and click on Preview Voice button
you can also control speed of the voice from that window.

  12. Hey!
    Look like a cool trick!
I just tried it but it didn’t work.
Instead, a pop up appeared and said this:

    Script: (drives and the file)
    Line: 2
    Char: 14
    Error: Invalid character
    Code: 800A0408
    Source: Microsoft VBSScript compilation error

I just copied and pasted…and did nothing. So I don’t think it was me….was it?
(My Email if you need it…I’m new to this site lol: [email protected])

  13. Cool one! Just defining the source to an already present file.

I like it. I never knew that such a file existed.
