Metis Learning, an education start-up has launched today Eddy, which is Android-based learning tablet for kids in the age group of 2-10 years. Eddy comes pre-loaded with educator-selected learning content, and a kid-safe environment. This tablet is priced at an introductory price of Rs. 9,999 and is exclusively available on eddytablet.com and amazon.in.
According to Metis learning, Eddy has been designed by educators, who have done extensive research in the area of digital learning and child brain development. Eddy has beeen designed by a team with a combined experience of 100+ years, and is based on the latest research on using technology in education which has been scientifically proven to foster creativity, accelerate learning and boost intelligence in kids. Eddy is currently being used in select schools in India and has been extensively tested by 500+ children.
The Eddy tablet comes with over 150 high-quality learning games, linked to school curriculum and covering key learning areas including language, math, our world and creativity. Children can read books, learn to play the piano, explore the world and the universe as well as practice math through games on this tablet. Only those games which are highly engaging, violence-free and enjoyable for children are available on this tablt. Parents also have access to over 50,000 educational apps on Google Play store. Eddy also comes with an exclusive recommendation engine for parents, the Kids Radar, which recommends the most suitable learning apps for their kids on the Play store.
To provide safe environment to the kids to dabble on the Eddy tablet, it has a kid-safe browser, which only permits access to reliable websites. Not only can parents set time limits for their children to play on Eddy, they can decide which subjects their children should focus on. In addition, they get detailed reports on what their child is actually doing on the tablet. Parents can create up to three child profiles on Eddy to ensure that each child gets relevant content as per their needs.

Eddy sports a 7″ IPS screen with 1024×600 pixels resolution, and is powered by Dual-Core, ARM Cortex-A9, 1.6GHz processor, coupled with 1GB RAM, and 8GB internal storage, which can be expanded upto 32GB, via Micro SD card. It runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS, and is equipped with 2MP rear camera, and 0.3MP front camera. It is packed with A 3200 mAH battery, which the company claims will give more than 4 hours of continuous usage time on full charge. For connectivity options, it supports WiFi,USB and has external 3G SD card slot.
Since this tablet is for kids, it is protected by thick drop safe bumper to minimize the possibility of the tablet being damaged. It also has an easy-to-hold handle suited to a child’s grip and is easy to carry.
Eddy tablet for the kids will face competition from the reputed HCL brand, which has come out with many ME range of tablets with educational content. But Metis Learning is quite confident that they wil also get space in this huge market of educational tablet for kids and will be able to sell the desired numbers of the tablets in India.
