Flipkart one of India’s largest e-commerce marketplace, has opened its fulfilment center in Chennai. With this opening, Flipkart now claims to have warehouse strength of 15 in the country. Owing to an increased demand and with a consistent focus on customer delight, the company has invested in improving the supply chain in Chennai and surrounding areas.
With the new fulfilment center, Flipkart now reaches a total storage capacity of over 2.5 million cubic feet, across the country. The Centre is the latest addition to Flipkart’s state-of-the-art logistics network and technology that aims at providing easy access to e-commerce services for sellers and the convenience of faster delivery for customers. With hundreds of sellers already registered in Tamil Nadu, the facility will perform both inbound and outbound functions, facilitating a seamless management for sellers as well as consumers. Focusing on technology, Flipkart aims to make its logistics more robust by introducing services such as automation and robotics in the warehouses, as stated by the company in its press statement.
Commenting on the launch, Binny Bansal, COO & Co-founder, Flipkart, said, “Tamil Nadu, is one of the fastest growing states that has seen an upsurge in demand for technology products like mobile phones. It was hence important to invest in the existing feeder capabilities and serve the ever rising demand from customers.”
He further added. “With an expanding range of products across categories, new facilities become an integral part of our growth plan.”
The new warehouse will service key regions in Tamil Nadu with a dedicated team of experts who will be stationed there for training the staff and streamlining operations in the facility. Customers within Chennai and TN region can also enjoy facilities such as same day delivery and next day delivery of products such as mobile phones, adds the statemen of the company.
