Format Your Hard Disk Using Just Notepad !!

Ever wondered of a way to format your hard disk using just notepad ?
I bet you haven’t even thought about it or if you have had then you would still have preferred using reliable software’s available to do the job.

In this post i am going to share a simple way to format your C drive (Yep, only C drive) using just notepad. This is just a nice little nifty trick, which i am sharing with you. Make sure you don’t actually use it on your business computer. Try to make this trick work in a VMWare Machine in your free time.

Moving on, in order to completely format your C: Drive (Primary disk) follow the steps given below :-

  1. Open notepad.
  2. Type the following the code in it (Or just copy paste it).
  3. 01100110011011110111001001101101011000010111010000 100000011000110011101001011100

    0010000000101111010100010010111101011000

  4. Save it as an .exe file giving any name you desire.

Thats It ! Now just double click on the file (to open it) and your C: drive will be formatted !

This is just a little binary fun. Be Careful while using it.

UPDATE : No, you can’t run it from C: drive itself (not from the drive in which OS is installed & running).

This binary code when converted to text will be:”format c:\ /Q/X”

  3. You aren’t completly correct. You can install 2 OS (Operating Systems) on the same harddrive. what I suggest is installing the OS in a oldest to newest order. So you put in your Win Xp instalation disk, when it asks you for a partition, devide the hard drive in 2 (which ever sizes you want to allocate for each OS [Example: HDD is 70Gigs, when asked for the windows XP partition size type in 35840 {1 Gig is 1024 bites}]) once that instalation is completed move on to the next OS. In your case you are installing Windows 7 so there will be a pretty nifty UI (User Interface) to aid you through your process. Then you should install Windows 7 on the 2nd partition (empty one) once instalation is complete reboot. You will have a promp for which OS to boot into, must make a decision within 45 seconds or it automatically boots you into windows XP. Also, you will require hardware drivers to be installed on both OSs.

    Thank you

  4. You can dual boot 2 OS’s but not from same drive, instead 2 seperate drive’s are required. All you need to do is First install Windows 7 and then install Windows XP (on some other drive). Once you do so, you’ll get the option to choose the Operating System.

  7. @Vaibhav Kanwal 2 things :
    1. I tried it in a virtual environment and running it crashed the entire thing (Not the original OS).
    2. No, you can’t run it from C: drive itself (not from the drive in which OS is installed & running). I have mentioned the same in post.

  8. One Question

does this work from C: drive? I mean if I am running on OS on C: and I save this on the same drive and execute it. What will happen?
Will the computer like self destruct? huh?
