Gionee of China is very confident for Indian market and has launched their premium smartphones like Elife E5, Elife E7 in year 2013, and now Elife S5.5 smartphones in the grand launch event on 31st March in Goa. We were invited by Gionee to attend the launch event and I have the opportunity to spend some time with Elife S5.5. My first impression is that this smartphone is stunning in look and has good hardware and software features and will be ideal device to posess in the mid-range segment.
The Gionee Elife S5.5 is crafted with a metallic frame made of an aluminium-magnesium alloy and a Corning Gorilla glass uni-body, which gives it premium look and being just 5.5 mm thin, it is easy to hold with one hand. Gionee’s claim that Elife S5.5 is the slimmest smartphone in the world is fully justified after seeing this device and feeling it.
The power and volume buttons are on the left side of the phone, which make it convenient to operate it with one hand. However, the 3.5mm jack is on the bottom and the Micro-USB charging port is placed on top of the device.
The Elife S5.5 has Super AMOLED Plus display with a pixel density of 441ppi,and features good viewing angles. The colour reproduction is accurate, and text looked quite bright and sharp. Gionee is quite aggressive on camera front on its smartphones.
While, we have seen impressive 16MP camera on its latest Elife E7 smartphone, which reproduces very shartp images, Gionee has not disappointed the would be buyers of its Elife S5.5 by fixing 13MP auto-focus camera in the back, and 5MP auto-focus in the front with 95 degree ultra-wide angle. We have used the camera in daylight for quite sometime and found the reproduction to be quite impressive. However, we could not use the camera in dim light and this we shall be doing when the product is sent to us for detailed review.
The Elife S5.5 runs on Gionee’s Amigo OS 2.0, which is based on Android OS, V4.2, which has improved significantly compared to Elife E7 smartphone. For the little time, I used the S5.5, there appear to be no snag and the software was working without any problems. However, this aspect will also be tested further after using various apps on the S5.5 whn the company sends us the device for detailed review.
The other aspect of slimness is required to put to hard test by using it for continuously to see whether the device gets heated up or not. Normally, the slim devices are prone to getting heated after long use and we can comment on this only when we use it for considerable time.
The other important factor of Elife S5.5 is that it is priced very attractively. You can get this device at MRP of Rs. 22,999, which is quite affordable. For making fashion statement, the Elife S5.5 will be available in Black, White, Blue, Pink, and Purple colors.
