After entering the Indian market two months ago with eight mobile handsets, Gionee of China has probably tasted success and has now launched entry level P1 smartphone for Rs. 4,999, to cater to those first time customers, who wish to switch from feature phone to smartphone, but have limited budjet. The dual-SIM PI comes with 3.5 inch HVGA TFT display and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS.
The P1 is powered by a 1GHz advanced Cortex A9 processor for faster downloading speed and smooth viewing and browsing experience. The P1 comes with a 2 Mega Pixel allowing a superior picture capturing experience. The experience can further be enjoyed with Front facing VGA camera option. The Dual Sim, Dual standby supported P1 is loaded with a 1500 mAh battery to provide an exceptionally lasting talk time. Gionee P1 will be available in Black color. As part of the inaugural offer the P1 would also include free 4 GB SD card, 2 Phone cases & a screen protection film.
This entry level device of Gionee will face stiff resistance from Micromax who have established themselves in entry and mid-segment levels of smartphones and their brand is established in India. Besides Micromax, other local players like Karbonn,Lava are also active in entry-level segment and other Chinese giant Huawei is also spreading its wings with its budjet smartphones. Gionee had launched few weeks ago its Dream D1 smartphone in the country with quad-core processor and priced at sub Rs 20,000 price point, but we have not heard much about this smartphone since then and its performance.
In order to be successful in highly competitive Indian market, Gionee will have to spend considerable amount on promotion of its products.
