Leading Television Channels Are Now Using WeChat

download (30)WeChat, the social communication app for smartphones, has announced today that leading TV channels Zee TV and Headlines Today have launched their Official Accounts on WeChat. Through Zee TV’s Official Account, users can vote for their favourite little dance master on the show Dance India Dance Lil Masters, by simply selecting them from the contestants list at the footer of the account. The Official Account will also give WeChat users access exclusive content such as videos, pictures and special behind the scenes of the popular show.

The other popular news channel Headlines Today has also launched its Official Account on WeChat. Other than disseminating news through this Official Account, Headlines Today also undertook the initiative of enabling WeChat users to get their opinions and queries on the Headlines Today Ticker during the election season, on their election special show ‘Election Express’. The Official Account also gave WeChat users an opportunity to ask questions to their favorite Headlines Today anchors, which were also displayed on the ticker.

The users can follow the Official Accounts by following the handle ‘ZeeTVIndia’ and ‘Headlines Today’.

WeChat has further mentioned in its press statement that their app is becoming a preferred medium for many brands, movies and celebrities to connect with users and also to share exclusive content with their fans. Brands are increasingly realizing that channels such as WeChat offer more direct communication and personal communication, which other open social media platforms may not.

WeChat is the world’s fastest growing social app with over 100 million registered accounts internationally. The messaging application was the 2nd most downloaded application on iOS in India in 2013.
