Asus has always impressed me with its camera quality on ZenFone 2 range of smartphones besides ofcourse with its other features. The newly launched ZenFone 3 comes with very impressive metal design and Asus has enhanced the camera features on this phone to take on with high-end smartphones as the introduction of ZenFone 3 is quantum jump for the company to claim stake in the premium segment.
We shall be discussing the other aspects of ZenFone 3 in different article as we are testing the phone (5.2 inch display version) which we received last week only. I used the camera of the phone and found it to be quite impressive and it has all the ingredients to pass the camera quality test with flying colors.
This phone comes with 16 MP rear camera with Sony IMX298 sensor. The rear camera has an f/2.0 aperture and 6P Largan lens, and also comes with and ASUS TriTech autofocus that automatically selects 2nd generation laser, phase detection and continuous auto focus to achieve precise focus in just 0.03 seconds. This phone also houses an 8MP front camera for selfies with 85-degree wide-angle lens. This camera has various modes to enhance the image quality as per your requirements such as Beautification, HDR Pro, Low-light, Night, Panorama, Depth of field, GIF, Time Lapse, Super Resolution etc.
When I clicked images in daylight, the camera reproduced vibrant images with good amount of detail and accuracy. These results can be compared with high-end smartphones also to various extent without foregetting that you are paying less than half the price what the premium brands such as Samsung’s Galaxy S7 which no doubt has the best camera available in the market offer in their phones. But ZenFone 3 fares very well and you can see few images reproduced below which has been snapped without using any filters:
Like othe cameras of mid-segment, the ZenFone 3 also struggles when you have to click images at night. The result of images taken in low-light are not as great as one would expect but still better compared to the shots of similar priced phones.
The camea of this phone is capable of recording in 4K and also supports Timelapse and Slow Motion videos.
Its front camera of 8MP has surprised us and will challenge many selfie-focussed cameras in the market. You can click sharp images with good amout of detail indoors and outdoors and surprisingly low-ligt selfies also come out quite good. To add zing to your selfies, you can use Beautification mode. The front camera is also capable of recording videos at full-HD resolution.
Our overall analysis of camera of ZenFone 3 is that this is the best possible camera in this range and you can fulfill all your requirements of photography with the rear and front cameras.
