Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone Galaxy S5 which was unveiled in India last month and would go on sale from 11th April in India and in many other countries, simultaneously. At the time of launching of Galaxy S5 in India, Samsung India did not declare the price of this smartphone. The company just informed the media gathered at the launch event that the Galaxy S5 would be priced between Rs. 51,000 and Rs. 53,000. From this, one can assume that the Galaxy S5 would carry price tag of approximately Rs. 51,500 in India.
Samsung had started the pre-booking process after announcing the Galaxy S5. One could pre-book the device on Samsung India e-store by paying just Rs. 1500 and the balance amount at the time of delivery. Earlier, Samsung was offering 15% cashback if you pay the amount by Citibank credit card and now Samsung has announced cashback of 20% if you pre-book the Galaxy S5 at the leading retail stores like Croma and Reliance Digital. Witht this offer, you will end-up paying approximately Rs. 41,500 for S5. How? Just see below:
Assuming the Galaxy S5 is priced at Rs. 51,500. You pay the full amount by Citibank credit card and will get cashback of 20%, which turn out to be Rs. 10,300 and after three months, when you get back the cashback amount then the final price for you work out as follows :
Rs. 51,500 – Rs. 10,300 = Rs. 41,200 + approx. Rs. 300 as interest on Rs. 10,300 for three months as the Citibank will retain this amount with them for three months and the cashback will reflect in your July statement. So the total price, which you will pay work out to approx Rs. 41,500.
For availing of cashback offer of 20%, you are required to pre-book the Galaxy S5 upto 10th April by paying Rs. 1500/- at above mentioned two stores and pay the balance amount to them by your Citibank credit card. Citibank will credit the cashback amount to your credit card account latest by 15th July, 2014. Under this offer, you can also pay by EMI scheme.
We had mentioned in our blog of 27th March that the Galaxy S5 is priced higher than our expectations and had predicted that Samsung would definitely come out with some attractive scheme to bring its price down to Rs. 42,000 to Rs. 45,000. See for yourself, how precise was our estimate!
At the moment, this offer is valid for only Citibank credit card, but we are sure that Samsung will tie-up with other banks like Axis, HDFC and ICICI to extend this offer in due course of time. In this highly competitive environment, the companies have to devise ways to push their expensive flagship devices.
