BlackBerry maker Research in Motion says its music sharing application for its popular messaging service will be available for downloading in the U.S., Canada and Australia within a day.
Users will only be able to select 50 songs to listen to and store on their phone per month. But they can also listen to their BBM friends’ music for free! Which means, a user with nine other friends would be able to listen to 500 songs, 50 for his or her own use, with an additional 450 from friends!!
For downloading the app BlackBerry mobile phone must have BlackBerry OS 5 or higher, and the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) version 6.0 or higher. BBM Music will be offered in two versions:
- Free option – It will just offer 30 second previews of the songs. RIM said that it will always offer a 30 day free trial. For the launch of the product, it has extended that into a full 60 day free trial.
- Premium Subscription Option – It will cost $4.99 per month ($4.99 CDN and $5.99 AUD) paid Premium option that unlocks the full song. To access music stored by a user’s friends, the users need to have signed up for the Premium subscription.
Research in Motion Ltd. said on its blog that BBM Music is a social music service that will be available for downloading within 24 hours. This service will be available shortly in other regions also and hope it will be introduced in India shortly as lot of BlackBerry devices are used here.
