Nokia Beta Labs has (for some time now :p) come up with a useful application for all the music lover called Gig Finder. Gig Finder, as the name suggests, allows you to locate the gig’s scheduled nearby your location and book tickets for the shows!! Moreover with Gig Finder you can also get the exact location where the concert, etc will be held on Ovi Maps, thus allowing you to easliy reach the location, as well as download tracks directly from the Ovi Music Store. All this is done right from your Nokia mobile phone without going anywhere!
Gig Finder is currently in beta stage and there are very high chances of it being developed into a full fledged application available to all the users via Ovi Store. I took a shot (since am not a hardcore music lover nor am interested in any concerts) and tried this app. The installation is pretty basic and the application can be installed on either phone memory or memory card, consuming just under 550 KB (Tested on nokia 5230). On the launch of application, Gig Finder identifies your current location (Using GPS or otherwise to suggests gig’s nearby), music residing on your mobile phone (to identify artists you listen to). The home-screen has 3 different tabs:
- Suggestions – It shows all the gig’s that will be held nearby (depending on your GPS location). Along with the Gig details, information like the Artist playing, timing and venue are also shown neatly. You can tap on any available Gig and book tickets for it, Save the event for viewing it later on, view the location on the Ovi Map or share with your friends on facebook (or send it via sms, email).
- Venues – Under this venues are shown in order of distance from your current location. Tapping on the venue shows the event’s that it’s going to organize in near future.
- Gigs Now – It shows all the gigs that have been scheduled to play soon (arranged in order of time left for them to play).
By tapping on the small arrow on top of the screen you can access Profile i.e the profile of any artist as well as download his/her music directly from Ovi Music Store; Option wherein you can configure the application to auto launch on each start-up, show alerts on home-screen and add any location (selecting which will sow the event nearby that location). The best feature of this app is that it shows alerts on home-screen whenever a gig is going to happen near the location you are at.
Currently Gig Finder is available for (Nokia) Symbian^3, S60 5th edition, and S60 3rd Edition FP2 devices. And the information of the gigs is shown of countried including USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland and Spain.
