India have won the first cricket test match against West Indies by 5 wickets, which was played in Delhi. Despite shoddy batting except of Rahul Dravid, wall of the team, in the first inning, the team showed its character and bowled menacingly and chased 276 runs on a difficult and tricky wicket.
Again the Indian team have shown that when chips are down, their experienced players come to the rescue. They have clearly shown their grit, determination, technique, patience and elegance and that is test match about. A test match test all the aforesaid qualities and only then successful verdict is given. Younger bowlers also need special mention for their excellent bowling especially spinners – Ashwin and Ojha. These spinners have shown their class and shall make difficult for Harbhajan to find place in the playing eleven Indian Team.
Although West Indies team is inexperienced and yet they have fought the battle bravely and hats off to S.Chanderpaul for his classy batting of first innings.
Test match played at Ferozeshah Kotla ground, which is maintained by DDCA, was wrapped up in 3 and a half days, thanks to poor laid out wicket. The wicket should be prepared in such a way that it should give assistance to fast bowlers, spinners and batsmen also. Bounce in the wicket was too low from day one and batsmen had to struggle to score runs. I fail to understand what prevents DDCA to make good wicket for true competition.
Another problem was administration of the match. Stands were plenty and tickets were not freely available. This ground is one of the lousiest cricket ground in the country despite the fact that it is in the capital of India. BCCI should set the house of DDCA in order and if its officials cannot conduct a match in a professional manner then they should outsource this job to a professional event management company for its future matches, which are scheduled to be played here.
