Oppo F1 Plus Review – All Ingredients Packed Into Stylish Device

Few years ago, nobody had imagined that Chinese brand Oppo will become quite popular in India and this credit to large extent goes to its series of smartphones launched in India and with the introduction of F series in India, Oppo has received good amount of traction in India. To capture the market based on Selfie craze of Indians, Oppo has recently launched Oppo F1 Plus phone with powerful features and first of its kind 16MP front facing camera. In this article, we shall discusss three major USPs of this phone which are its style and thin design, fingerprint scanner, its powerful battery with VOOC technlogy and of course its front camera to justify its Selfie Expert tag.

Beautifully designed phone

Nowadays, smartphones have become fashion statement. Nobody wants to carry dull looking device in his or her hand. To this effect, I would give full marks to Oppo for stylish and elegant look of Oppo F1 Plus despite the fact that its design language is borrowed from the latest iPhone 6. To the majority of users, this will be acceptable as they have the opportunity of atleast feel of iconic Apple device with a fraction of the cost plus powerful hardware and Android expierence!

This phone has metal chasis and rounded glass edges in the front which gives its premium look. The other plus point is that this phone is quite sleek and weighs just 145 grams and can be easily used with one hand.

This phone has 5.5-inch full-HD Amoled display with resolution of 1080 pixels by 1920 pixels at a PPI of 401 pixels per inch, which produces vivid colours and has good amount of brightness. It has Gorilla Glass 4 for prtection against scratches. The physical home button is below the display and looks quite impressive with rounded shape and golden colored ring. The fingerprint reader has been given on the home button. The volume rocker is on the left side of the phone whereas the Dual-SIM tray and power button is on the right side. The speaker grille, Micro-USB port and earphones socket have been given on the bottom of the phone.

Fingerprint Scanner – Blazing Fast

One of the highlights of Oppo F1 Plus is its incredibly fast fingerprint scanner on the home button in the front. Nowadays, many devices come with fingerprint reader on the back panel of the phone behind the rear camera but like Samsung Galaxy S6, S7 and S7 edge preimum phones which also have fingerprint reader on the home button, Oppo has followed this pattern on F1 Plus. It is quite convenient location to reach. This fingerprint scanner is quite easy and fast to set up. In few seconds, you can register five of your fingers and it has amazing response time when you put your registered fingerprint to unlock the phone. If you don’t believe me then you can see the appended video which shows how fast is the fingerprint scanner. Another plus point is that I have been using Oppo F1 Plus for quite sometimes and its fingerprint scanner has not failed me even once!

Battery – Fast Charging Redefined

The other most important feature of Oppo F1 Plus is its battery and charging capabilites. This phone gets its juice from a 2,850 mAh lithium polymer battery, which at the first instance look quite moderate on paper as nowadays, it has become a fad to pack a smartphone with 3000mAh battery upwards. But behold! Don’t go just by its rating but its actual performance. This battery incorporates Oppo’s patented VOOC Flash Charge technology which enables it to charge upto 75% charge after just half an hour of flash charging. I have tested repeatedly the charging capability and my phone was charged 75% in approxiamtely 35 minutes with fast charging and this is a great compliment to Oppo’s VOOC fast charge technology.  But to take advantage of this feature, you must ensure that you charge the battery with specific USB cable that comes with the phone. You will not be able to enjoy fast charging capability with the standard Micro-USB cable. Even in the case of Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, you can fast charge the devices with Samsung’s USB cable only. So do not forget to keep the specially designed cable in your bag.

Once fully chareged, the battery of F1 Plus will keep your phone alive for atleast 12 to 13 hours if you are a moderate users.

According to Oppo, VOOC technology keeps the phone’s temperature low during charging, protecting longevity of the battery and phone internals, and even allowing the user to simultaneously use their phone while they fast-charge, a function that no competitor can offer. We have verified the fact of using the phone when it is being fast charged which is again great achievement on the part of Oppo.

Selfie Camera – Ultimate Solution For Selfie Aficionados

Oppo F1 Plus is being marketed as Selfie Expert smartphone and the company is right in saying so. This selfie camera has greater megapixels count than rear camera. The frront camera has 16MP sensor along with a f/2.0 lens and incorporates Selfie Panorama feature, Beautify 4.0 and the front-facing Screen Flash for clicking perfect shots. Oppo claims that its selfie camera has special sensor which arranges pixels in a unique pattern designed to maximize image quality, resulting in photos that are clear, bright and strikingly rich in color. And this is the right claim as even without going into technicalities, the selfie clicked with this phone looks very impressive and has lot of details. You cannot ask for more perfect selfies.

If the front camera is hallmark of Oppo F1 Plus than its rear camera having 13MP sensor along with a f/2.2 lens and auto-focus feature also performs very well. You can snap enriched images with its rear camera indoors and outdoors where their is sufficient lighting provision. If their is very poor light then you get lot of noise in your images and this is not a serious issues as this happens even with cameras of flagship devices which do fail to some extent in poor lighting conditions. Moreover, one should not forget that compared to DSLR camera, these issue will remain on the smartphones. We have seen many high-priced camera focussed phones which also struggle as far as clicking images in fading or poor lights are concerned. We reproduce below some images taken in daylight and early morning (last one), which speaks for themselves.

Hardware and Performance – You Can’t Ask For More

The Oppo F1 Plus is packed with very powerful hardware features. Under the hood is a MediaTek Helio P10 2.0GHz 64-bit Octa-core processor which comes equipped with the world’s first TrueBright Image Signal Processor (ISP) engine, for enhanced color resolution and detail. This phone comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage which is expandable to 128GB via microSD card. We have used this phone for few days and did not face any lag or stutter while playing heavy graphics game and accessing websites, streaming videos over Wi-Fi etc. Surprisifngly, we also did not face heating issue while playing games and clicking images continuously for few minutes.

This phone runs on Oppo’s ColorOS 3.0 based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Although I am not fan of tweaked interface yet unlike other Chinese vendors, Oppo’s OS is quite simple and even its icons are heavily inspired by iPhone. It is a neat and clean interface and you will not have to scratch your head to get tuned to it.

The F1 Plus also offers connectivity options of 4G with VoLTE support, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/ A-GPS, and Micro-USB. This phone has slot for Hybrid SIM, which means that either you can insert two SIMs or one SIM and microSD card for enhancing the internal storage capacity. The call quality on this phone is quite good and it catches 4G signal with perfection wherever they are available.

To sum up, Oppo F1 Plus has all the ingredients of a flagship phone. It is well designed phone and while carrying, you will definitely have a feeling of very premium device in your hand. This is priced Rs. 27,000 and you can consider it if you are looking for a stylish phone with powerful features.
