Antivirus software for windows have been into existence for a long period of time. Majority of these programs have integrated antispyware, antivirus modules to their existing software but failed to offer reliable solution. Norton being a good example. This was all what Vipre claims. I took it for a spin and uninstalled my beloved Microsoft Security Essentials, which has been a trusted protector of my PC since it came into picture. Anyhow, installation was a breeze, no technical knowledge was required. It downloaded the required installation files, updated it’s definitions and went on live 🙂
I started with a quick scan to just make sure the bare essential system files are safe. Did a similar check with MS Security Essentials, just a small benchmark to see if either of them lacked in basic scanning. To my surprise, Viper included cookie scanning and found a low level cookie threat with a suggested remove action. Great going here. The full system scan, like all other antivirus programs worked without any issues.
What Vipre has as added features is what makes it stand out of the crowd (or it tries to). It comes with Secure File Eraser, History Cleaner and PC Explorer. History Cleaner being the most interesting option of all. Apart from deleting the web browser history, temporary files, cookies, it also deletes history for the installed applications as well! Very very useful functionality in my opinion. The rest of them viz. Secure File Eraser, PC Explorer (list clean, suspicious running processes) are pretty standard but useful nonetheless.
All in all Vipre is a good antivirus solution with some great tools included within and comes with free U.S.A. based technical support. However, the price tag of $59.95 doesn’t really do justice to the functionality Microsoft Security Essentials and the likes of it offer. Yes, the tools like PC Explorer, History Cleaner do make it attractive and purposeful but remember you are buying an antivirus not these individual, independed tools.
This being said, I would still recommend you to try Vipre Antivirus. Apart from price factor, the antivirus program in itself is light on your system, offers added functionality 🙂
