Review Of ZTE Grand Memo Smartphone

In an attempt to keep pace with race for releasing new smartphones by various vendors, the Chinese manufacturer ZTE has released yet another smartphone model. This is in the form of the ZTE Grand Memo. This recent addition to the ZTE smartphone family line comes with a huge screen, a powerful camera, and a speedy processor.

GRAND-OPTI

Design and Style

The ZTE Grand Memo features a large, 5.7-inch touch screen display – something that makes it a pocket-filling gadget. However, similar to many of the large-screen phones that you will find today, this translates to the phone being pretty slim. In fact, according to the Chinese manufacturer, the unit is only less than 9mm thick.

In terms of flair, this smartphone is a bit below the standards of many consumers today. The rear side of the Grand Memo is made from a glossy plastic material, underneath which lies the slots for the SIM card and the external MicroSD memory card. While it may be lightweight, this particular characteristic does not make it appear or even feel like a phone worth the $400 plus US dollars (conversion from the 2,688 yuan) that it costs.

Connectivity

In terms of connectivity though, the ZTE Grand Memo excels. It provides users with solid connectivity, including all of the Wi-Fi standards (with the inclusion of Wi-Fi Direct, GPS, and Bluetooth 4.0). The Chinese manufacturer is also planning to release a 4G version of this phone. As with most smartphones today, you can also use VoIP services with this particular model especially if you are subscribe to third party services from VoIP providers such as RingCentral.

Software, Interface

Since the Grand Memo runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), you can expect to get accustomed to it easily. It also features a custom user interface developed by the manufacturer itself. One thing that you should be aware of though is that there are a few things that ZTE makes that renders their products appear less classy than the other Android phones available. It does, however, provide users with some level of control over how they would want their Grand Memo to look like.

One great, noteworthy feature of the ZTE Grand Memo is its processor. It makes use of a Snapdragon 600-series quad core Krait 1.5GHz CPU. This makes the phone’s performance exceptional, speedy, and quick.

Camera

The camera is where the Grand Memo is able to keep up with its competition. It features a 13-megapixel camera sensor, similar to that of the Sony Experia Z. The main sensor (the one at the back of the phone) is completed with an LED flash.

The camera on the front of the phone is nothing special though, as it only makes use of a 1-megapixel sensor. Most phones of this size already comes with two or even higher resolution cameras.

The Verdict

So, is the ZTE Grand Memo worth the wait? Well, this will depend on how you will use it. If you are looking for a fancy smartphone, you may want to try out the competition. On the other hand, if you just need a functional smartphone, it may just be worth trying out.
