Software
Older iteration of Optimus Vu came with older version of Android but the same has been bumped to Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich. Along with ICS comes with LG’s own customization running their latest Optimus 3.0 UI, which is pretty impressive.
On a side note LG hasn’t tried to push through lot many built in apps, only the essential ones. 2 worth mentioning apps are:
- Quicknote
- Themes
In order to use Quicknote LG has put a dedicated button on top for note taking. Pressing the button lets you quickly take a snapshot of the screen with the ability to write on it. It allows you to add voice, video, images, hand written text on a note. What makes it useful is that Quicknote can be used at anytime, during phone call, while watching video, viewing images, etc. Supporting hand writing needs, Optimus Vu comes with a stylus, the precision level of which is just great. Although stylus is useful however, since there is no place to stow away the stylus nor even a hook to hang it, carrying stylus becomes unnecessary headache. Moreover, using fingers does the job as well.
Anyhow, moving on, another aspect is theming of your device. This is the first android based device I have come across which supports theme’s. Optimus Vu supports 4 variations of theme, which completely overhaul appearance of phone, changing icons, wallpaper, etc. Nice inclusion indeed!
